About Me:
“About myself,” is a very broad request. Besides, it keeps changing. Just when I think I understand myself, it changes.
Do you want to know that I am passionate about writing, or that I am afraid of spiders, or that I have practiced Catholicism, Fundamentalism, Buddhism, Taoism, Christian Science, Quakerism, and Science of Mind and still have serious doubts about whether they are basically very different?
One of my frustrations about myself is that I am fluid. But that is also one of my greatest assets, because if I am ever changing, I can never assume that I know who I am. That keeps me investigating.
However, I do have a mission to cultivate strength and promote transformation on all levels of human experience. I have experienced physique transformation, I've freed myself from abuse, I've overcome addiction - and the most exciting thing is that the basic principles and processes are the same - from transformation to transformation and from person to person. It's a human experience, and the laws of transformation don't much care who you are, as long as you follow them.
I kept a diary of my experience of healing from abuse, and I published it as a book. The idea is to offer support and encouragement to others as they go through what can be a convoluted and scary process - whether their healing experience is about abuse or not. Abuse is, after all, just one way in which we are torn. It is only one opportunity for awakening. Visit the blog at: http://www.ImTakingTheStairs.com.
I also have a blog on enlightened fitness, as well as on spirituality. You can learn more about them at http://www.juliemckown.com.
My book is titled, Taking the Stairs: My Journal of Healing and Self-Discovery. You may download the PDF version for free if you or someone you know may benefit from it. Hard copy versions of Taking the Stairs are available at http://www.juliemckown.com.
I've also written a book about my physique transformation, which was just as much a spiritual transformation as anything. That book is titled, Body Wizardry: The Art of Physique Transformation from the Inside, Out.
I have also done some singing, and one of the songs I wrote and recorded is called One Woman's War. I offer it as a free download at http://www.onewomanswar.com, My intention is that the song will make its way around a bit, and help people understand a little more about the dilemma many abused women face. I hope to inspire compassion, and I hope to help abused women become recognized by others who may be able to help.
But as much as this is my intention, it does not define who I am. I haven't found a way to do that. I suspect I never will.
I am ever unfolding.
Peace,
Julie
